Explore Somali region's journey towards stability and democratic governance
Somali Regional State: A Dream Realized
Since the beginning of the democratic transition in Ethiopia, the Somali regional state has become the most stable in the whole of Ethiopia, indicating that building a Somali state government has become a dream come true.
Building a state government with a history of displacement and conflict requires first resolving the problem and then enforcing the rule of law so that the problem does not recur.
State building has gone through various stages, and the government has shown patience to ensure that there is no more violence than the problem to be solved.
New Phenomenon in the Region
Soon after the change, different parties and ideologies gathered in the region. Differences of opinion were a new phenomenon in the region. Before the change, there was no system for dealing with a party that did not share your views.
The current regime is determined to transform the region's sectarian politics into a democratic one.
“…We will revolutionize Somali politics. We will not be intimidated by criticism or lament. We will defeat reactionary ideas with better ideas; we will not criminalize or harass them. And we are determined to face off with forces of negativity and sectarianism. It is our duty!”
