We are proud to announce the successful completion of a structured technical support mission at Qabri-Bayax Primary Hospital, conducted from October 9-11, 2025, by the Somali Regional Health Bureau’s Laboratory Directorate. The core objective was to strengthen laboratory service quality, documentation systems, and operational readiness, marking a significant stride toward laboratory accreditation and improved patient care.

Key Achievements and Deliverables

The mission, led by our Quality Case Team, was a highly collaborative effort, with the hospital's Quality Improvement Team and Laboratory Head working side-by-side with the visiting experts. Key achievements that will sustain this new focus on quality include:

  • Establishing a Quality Baseline: A comprehensive baseline assessment was completed using the SLIPTA Checklist (Version 3), providing a clear picture of the laboratory’s current status and pathway for improvement.
  • Implementing International Standards: New ISO 2022 laboratory documents were customized to fit the local context, then printed, labeled, and organized into a dedicated, accessible shelf.
  • Empowering the Staff: The hospital staff received hands-on orientation on how to use the new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and formats, ensuring that quality practices are not just written—but integrated into daily work.
  • Strengthening Management Systems: A systematic document control system was setup, and a complete inventory of all lab equipment was carried out and recorded.
  • Committing to the Future: Hospital leadership demonstrated their dedication by committing to prepare a dedicated office space for the Laboratory Head and Quality Team to ensure this momentum is sustained.
